Foxit Launches Embedded PDF Software Development Kit 2.0

New Release Delivers Support for PDF Forms, Annotations, Pressure Sensitive Ink, Digital Signatures, Added Security, and Windows® 8 Support

FREMONT, Calif. - May 8, 2012 - Foxit® Corporation, a leading provider of solutions for reading, editing, creating, organizing, and securing PDF documents, today announced the release of the Foxit Embedded PDF Software Development Kit (SDK) 2.0. The new release provides additional support for PDF forms, annotations, pressure sensitive ink, digital signatures, and added security. Foxit Embedded PDF SDK 2.0 also supports developers targeting Microsoft® Windows® 8 Consumer Preview.

The industry leading SDK is targeted to developers, device manufacturers, and telecom carriers who support applications that leverage powerful, standard-compliant PDF technology to securely display, search, and annotate documents and to fill PDF forms. For example, HTC uses this technology to provide PDF view capabilities on their popular HTC ONE™ series smartphones. The Embedded PDF SDK is platform independent, allowing developers to "develop once, port many times" to quickly and cost effectively extend the reach of their software to multiple platforms. Optimized for mobile devices, desktop, and server deployments, this SDK provides scalable, robust, and high performance PDF technology. Demos and sample code are provided to help developers get up to speed quickly.

Key new features of the Foxit Embedded PDF SDK 2.0 include:

PDF Form Filling and Data Collection
PDF forms allow authors to create digital forms using standard PDF technology so these forms can be viewed, read, and filled-in through freely available PDF readers and internet browsers. Data from these forms can be captured and stored in repositories. The Embedded PDF SDK PDF Forms module allows developers to display PDF forms on mobile devices for their users to fill out.  Support for JavaScript allows developers to validate data and to submit the collected data to a back end repository.

Annotations
Annotations allow users to write comments, highlights, and other explanatory notes on documents. The Foxit Embedded PDF SDK Annotation module allows developers to save user annotations as part of the PDF as opposed to an application layer overlay. This allows the annotations to be shared and viewed on other applications (including PDF readers) and on other platforms. Annotations include file attachments, stamps, highlights, notes, and hyper-links.

Pressure Sensitive Digital Ink
Digital ink enables users to write directly on the screen to control their application and to input information which appears as natural-looking handwriting or drawings. Pressure sensitive digital ink provides a more natural inking experience that allows users to write and draw just as they would with pen on paper. Users are able to finely control the appearance of their annotations, such as thickness, color, opacity, and texture. The Foxit Embedded PDF SDK Pressure Sensitive Digital Ink module allows developers to incorporate pressure sensitive digital ink capabilities into their PDF solution.

"The combination of Foxit’s PDF technology and N-trig’s DuoSense® pen and multi-touch solution enables the comfortable creation and annotation of PDF content for users across the spectrum, from consumers to education and the enterprise," said Ronen Heldman, VP Marketing for N-trig (www.n-trig.com).  "With 256 levels of pressure sensitivity, the DuoSense active pen provides a natural pen-on-paper feel for screen ink input, resulting in a natural, intuitive and precise writing experience for users of Foxit’s innovative PDF software solutions."

Digital Signature
Digital signatures enable users to exchange documents electronically with the assurance that the documents’ contents have not been modified since it was digitally signed and to verify the signers’ digital identity. Foxit Embedded PDF SDK Digital Signature module provides developers the ability to digitally sign PDF documents using third-party digital signatures and to verify digitally signed PDF documents.

Security
Digital Rights Management (DRM) provides copyright protection for digital media. Its purpose is to prevent unauthorized access or redistribution of digital media. The Foxit Embedded PDF SDK Security encryption/decryption module provides hooks that allow developers to integrate PDF documents into their existing DRM solutions. Developers can implement features to password protect PDF files and to enforce associated security options to determine who can perform actions such as read, modify, text copy, print, save, and more.

Supported Platforms
Embedded PDF SDK is supported on the following platforms: Android™, iOS® (Apple® iPad® and iPhone®), Microsoft Windows (including Windows 8 Consumer Preview), Mac OS®, and Linux. Other platforms can be available upon request.

"We chose Foxit Embedded PDF SDK for our iCharts application due to the amazing clarity it provides in rendering PDF documents," said Alain Gaudrault, Technical Lead for Navtech (www.navtech.aero). "Fast, accurate, and clear rendering is critical for flight operations and safety."

"There is tremendous growth in the application market where developers need to quickly deliver quality applications at a low cost," said Bill Bean, AVP of SDK Prime. "The Embedded PDF SDK reduces developers’ costs, improves time to market, and allows them to add their own value added customizations to differentiate themselves in a very competitive market."
