Tabs are basically groupings that can contain different commands, documents, even workflows.
For commands, the Ribbon is the place you’ll typically find thethat contain them. To make it even easier for you to get where you want to go, lets you customize and fine-tune the Ribbon so that it displays the commands you use most. That includes creating custom with your favorite commands.
It’s really easy to customize the Ribbon. To do so, right click it, choose Customize the Ribbon from the menu to bring up the Customize Tools dialog box, and then follow the steps outlined in this article.
Create a new tab
If you want to create your own tabs with the commands you use most, here’s how.
To create a new tab, do one of the following:
- Select the tab after which you want to add the new tab, and then click New Tab.
- (Alternatively) Right-click the tab after which you want to add the new tab, and then choose New Tab from the context menu.
Add a new group to a tab
To add a new group to a tab, please do one of the following:
- Select the tab to which you want to add the group, and then click New Group.
- (Alternatively) Right-click the tab to which you want to add the group, and then choose New Group from the context menu.
Integration with SharePoint, iManage, or Enterprise Connect adds tabs that shortcut your workflow
Integration with these popularsolutions enables you to directly open, modify, and save PDF documents in your DMS account using PhantomPDF, which streamlines your PDF document management.
What’s more, when you integrate PhantomPDF with SharePoint, iManage, or Enterprise Connect, Foxit adds a tab for the respective software, giving you a shortcut in the Ribbon to access it.
So, for example, if you add iManage to PhantomPDF, a new iManage tab will be added to the Ribbon to give you quick access right on the screen. That means you don’t have to go to File > Open to get to your iManage documents. It may seem like a small change but for users who access iManage files multiple times a day, it’s a valuable time-saving step.
Tips for switching tabs between open documents
Tabs not only get you to the commands you use most, they can get you to other PDF files you have open.
In general, you can switch views between open documents by Ctrl+Tab/Ctrl+Shift+Tab in multi-tab reading. According to the order of how documents appear in the application window, Ctrl + Tab represents right, Ctrl + Shift + Tab represents left.
Since Foxit PhantomPDF V9.5, we added two new options under the General tab in the Preference window for controlling how to switch tabs:
- Use recent order when switching tabs with Ctrl+Tab
- Quickly switch between tabs by using mouse wheel
With the option Quickly switch between tabs by using mouse wheel checked, you can quickly switch through tabs by pressing the mouse wheel. Scroll up to the previous tab, and down to the next tab.
If you check the option Use recent order when switching tabs with Ctrl+Tab, then the switch tab with Ctrl + Tab will be done according to your most recent browsing order.
Ctrl + Tab moves to the previous active document and Ctrl + Shift + Tab moves back. For example, if you open documents from left to right in the order 1,2,3,4, when you click on document 1,3,4,2, the current view shows document 2. If you press Ctrl+Tab, the switch order is 4,3,1,2,4,3. Confusing? Maybe a little, so try it on your own a few times and you’ll see what we mean.
