WAC Server

Remote Access Client

Remote Access Server (WAC Server)

Administration

As a system administrator, you can control many aspects of a WAC Server.

Access Control

The most important part of administration settings is access control. WAC Server supports a very flexible access control plan. Access can be granted or revoked to any user, user group, or host address.

For a user or user group, you can assign access to different types of service: the interactive session, SFTP service, port forwarding service, or remote execution service. You can also force users to use the administrator's (see "User Settings" section below).

For a particular host address, you can allow or disallow connection to the WAC Server. You can also assign stored user/password combinations to any particular address so the client can logon without typing anything (very useful when using RF devices to connect).

For your convenience, WAC Server also allows you to alter default access for all users and hosts.

User Settings

Every Windows user can specify their own preferences for certain user settings, like the initial directory, startup script file, command shell program, etc.

System administrators can also specify user settings for all users. Administrators can optionally supercede a user's preference using the administrator's settings.

For example, administrators can force certain users or user groups to use WAC Protected Shell program as command shell, so that once those users logon, they can't execute any commands or programs except those defined in the protected shell definition file.

For your convenience, WAC Server also allows you to alter the default user settings for all users.

System Logging

WAC Server provides detailed logging information for user activities including logging on and off, service starts and stops, file transferring, etc.

Logging information is written to log files, and you can use the WAC management tool to view this logging information real time.

If the user is using the WAC Protected Shell, an administrator can choose to log all their activities such as executed commands and programs.

Server Global Settings

WAC Server also provides global configurable settings. Including:

  • User authorization settings such as domain settings, max retry and timeout;
  • Session settings such as output redirection and terminal update rate;
  • Telnet, SSH, and serial port communication settings;
  • File transfer, SFTP, and anonymous account settings;
  • And others...

Remote Administration

WAC Server includes a text-only configuration tool that allows you to configure all the above server settings.

Because it's a text-only application, it can be run remotely from a terminal session. By this way you can do remote administration for WAC Server.
