Overview
of WAC Server
INTRODUCTION
WAC Server from
Foxit Software Company provides
efficient and full featured remote access to Windows NT/2000/XP
machines from workstations or terminals.
Supported access
methods include Telnet, SSH (Secure
Shell), and Serial ports. Supported
clients include Windows telnet client, other ANSI-compliant
terminals or terminal emulators, and native WAC TelentClent
and SSHClient for Windows 95 or later Windows OS.
You can log on
to the server machine through any of the above methods, and
have access to any commands available to Windows command prompt
box. You can also run any tty-based applications, DOS application,
or full-screen text-based applications, as well as some very
useful tools come with WAC Server.
With the support
of client program, Foxit WAC Server can support color text,
mouse operation, special keys or key-combinations.
WAC Server is not
just an access server, it also includes a collection of very
useful tools that makes your remote access much more convenient
and productive than just using those DOS-like commands. These
tools include WAC Explorer, Textual and Binary Editors, Event
Viewer, Registry Viewer, Email reader/Composer, service manager,
and others. Foxit will keep adding more useful utilities to
this collection, and make them freely available to WAC Server
users.
The evaluation
version limits maximum 2 concurrent users, and it also periodically
sends out evaluation reminder messages. Please contact our

for licensing information. The native WAC client programs
can be freely distributed.
INSTALLATION
Foxit WAC server
can only be installed on Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP.
To install Foxit
WAC server, logon as Administrator user, unzip the wac.zip
file into a temporary directory, then run the SETUP.EXE file,
follow the instructions on screen.
Please note that
Foxit WAC server's Telnet service replaces the Windows built-in
telnet server, so the installation will disable the Windows
telnet server.
After installation,
you can start to use WAC server by running "telnet localhost"
or "wacterm localhost", and or "wacssh localhost".
UNINSTALLATION
To uninstall Foxit
WAC server, please run the UNINSTALL.EXE file in the installed
directory, then remove all the files inside the installed
directory. You have to be Administrator to do the uninstallation.
If you want to
re-enable the Windows telnet service, you have to do this
manually using Windows service manager.
CLIENT
INSTALLATION
Foxit WAC server
comes with two free Telnet client programs, WACTERM.EXE and
WACSSH.EXE, which can be installed on Windows 95/98/Me/NT
4.0/2000/XP.
They don'tt require
any installation except copying the files themselves. If you
want, you can create a shortcut of the file on your desktop,
or in the start menu.
To run the clients,
double click on the icon or at the command line, type "wacterm"
or "wacssh "then the host address or name you want
to access.
SHUTDOWN
OR RESTART WAC SERVER
To shutdown or
restart Foxit WAC Server, please use the Windows Service Manager,
looking for the service titled "Foxit WAC Server". You can
stop it or start it from there. Or you can use WAC application
SVCMAN.EXE or WAC commads "wac stop/start" and "wac
restart" to do it.
SERVER
CONFIGURATION
To reconfigure
the server settings, please run CONFIG.EXE. Most configurations
take effective only after you restart the WAC server.
SSH
SUPPORT
Right now Foxit
WAC Server only support the latest version of SSH protocol
(2.0). It supports Tripple DES encryption, server public/private
key. All communications between host and terminal are encrypted.
The only supported
authentication method is username/password.
WAC
APPLICATIONS
Foxit WAC Server
also comes with a set of great text-based applications that
will help you a lot when you access the server from remote
terminals.
