Overview
Foxit Embedded PDF SDK is a small, fast, and efficient software development kit specially designed for rendering PDF contents on mobile devices.
The SDK contains a set of C++ APIs, libraries, and demo programs. Developers and OEMs may use it to develop their mobile PDF reader solution quickly.
Foxit Embedded PDF SDK has excellent performance and accuracy on PDF parsing and rendering and it is optimized for mobile devices with limited resources.
The SDK enables end-users to get an enhanced user experience by viewing high-quality rich content on a variety of mobile devices such as mobile phones, eBook devices, PDAs, personal media players, etc.
Key features
- Full-featured rendering: The SDK supports almost all features available on desktop version, including:
- Advanced PDF features, such as transparency, smooth shadings, dash patterns, embedded fonts, etc
- Eastern Asian language i.e. Chinese/Japanese/Korean characters (requires system font support)
- JPEG2000 and JBIG2 images
- Small footprint and fast speed: The basic module of the SDK is around 1 MB, adding all modules to be around 1.5 MB total. Therefore it consumes little memory on mobile devices and displays PDF documents rapidly.
- Memory management: The SDK not only consumes a small amount of memory, but also makes efficient use of cache technology. This allows the reader to display PDF pages very quickly, especially large PDF files with many pages. When an application detects an out-of-memory (OOM) situation, the SDK is able to handle OOM, and gracefully recovers.
- Progressive API: For time consuming operations like page parsing and rendering, the SDK provides progressive procedures to avoid consuming all the CPU time. This allows the device to respond to user actions promptly while doing page parsing and rendering at the same time.
- Cross-platform portability: The SDK allows developers to quickly and easily create PDF viewing applications across various platforms including Symbian OS, Windows Mobile, Brew, Embedded Linux, ALP, SHP, etc. This helps the developer and OEM to get faster time-to-market.
- Full compatibility: The SDK is fully compatible with PDF Standard 1.7. This ensures that PDF files created by any standards-compliant software can be displayed accurately.
